After spending $4.05 billion dollars to buy Lucasfilm and the rights to the Star Wars franchise, Disney are wasting little time in putting those rights to good use. With a new Star Wars trilogy on the way aswell at least 3 stand-alone films in production, the importance of their first film Star Wars The Force Awakens being a huge success is a must, especially after the lukewarm reaction to the prequels.
When JJ Abrams was announced as director for the film people universally cheered but with the importance of this film being a success on his shoulders how much power does JJ actually have in steering The new trilogy? Well it appears the answer to that question is a whole lot.
Recently Abrams took part in a panal with Apple’s chief design officer Jony Ive and moderated by producer Brian Glazer. Over the hour long conversation they spoke about the type of control Abrams has over The Force Awakens.
When asked if he was in complete control Abrams replied “Yeah, Yeah”. Elaborating he said “When you do a Disney project, there’s a clause in there that you kind of go, ‘Well, if i were a lawyer i could probably drive a truck through it…”
It appears that not only does JJ have true final cut of the film but has 100% approval on everything featured in the movie.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally arrives in cinemas December 18th 2015.
