Since the announcement of Ben Affleck playing Batman there had been reports of Affleck wanting to direct the standalone Batman film aswell as star in it. For the first time Affleck has commented on the possibility and how likely it is he’d be able to do it.
Whilst speaking with Total Film he said “Look, if i could make it work, yeah, obviously it would be like a dream. The Trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you- if you’re going to direct it- that you can make it good. You’ve got to have the right idea and the right take on it. Broadly speaking, it’s something i’d be open to,, for sure. It’s a very exciting idea.”
Executive producer of Batman vs. Superman Charles Roven also spoke about this possibility “He’s got a busy schedule, he’s about to start a movie now. And he’s also got obligations to be in the Justice League movie. The calendar is a little bit tricky. Of course, the script obviously has to be worthy of him wanting to direct it, and once that happens, it’s still got to fit into the calendar. We’re hoping we can make it happen. We’re just at the beginning of the question.”
For as good of a actor Affleck its arguable he is a better director. Affleck’s previous films Gone Baby Gone, The Town & Argo have all been well received by critics and the latter won an Acadamy Award for Best Picture. You have to think this is something that likely will happen eventually.
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to be released on the 25th March 2016.
