Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still just under 3 months away and already Lucasfilm and Disney are setting its sights on 2017’s Episode VIII. Collider.com is reporting that Lucasfilm has cast Gugu Mbatha-Raw in a Leading role line in the sequel to Decembers highly anticipated JJ Abrams Film.
Although nothing has been officially announced multiple sources were reporting in September that a leading role said to be the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia was narrowed down to 3 candidates Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black, Olivia Cooke from Bates Motel and Gina Rodriguez from Jane the Virgin.
It is unclear if this is the very same role that Mbatha-Raw has reportedly been cast in or another. Time will only tell as Episode VIII is scheduled to start filming early 2016.
Mbatha-Raw is best known for appearing in 2014’s Beyond the Lights and 2015s Wachowski blockbuster Jupiter Ascending. Star Wars Episode VIII is set to hit theatres May 26th 2017 and is to be directed and written by Looper director Rian Johnson.
